by Dr. Sharleen Hawco ND November 26, 2008

Sweet potatoes are normally a part of the Thanksgiving tradition as well as the Christmas tradition. These root vegetables are some of the most nutritious vegetables that can be found year round.

Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin A and a very good source of vitamin C. These two vitamins have antioxidant properties, which helps boost the immune system, reduces damage to the arteries, and helps protect the body against cancer. Sweet potatoes are also a good source of dietary fiber help relieve constipation and reduce cholesterol.

Sweet potatoes have a yellow or orange flesh, and its thin skin may either be white, yellow, orange, red or purple. (Remember: orange vegetables are a good source of Vitamin A)

Be sure to add these wonderful naturally sweet vegetables to your meals throughout the year.
